in the clouds.
The cloud cover kept us cool, but also hid the views of Mt.Hood early in the day

Karen and Darrell Keefer along with Bill Zapf are trying to locate Mt. Hood in the clouds.

Poolside at The Resort in Welches. The hot tub was welcomed by many... probably about 9 at a time.

Our day started with a continental breakfast in the hotel followed by a leisurely ride into the outskirts of Portland. We managed to navigate our way through north Portland to take advantage of the bike paths. We road with several different people today, but spent the most time riding with Karen and Darrell of Pennsylvania. They are high school sweethearts since they were 14 and 16 years old. All four of their children are now out of high school, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the summer by riding across America.
The night before, during "Route Rap" we were informed that we would have a 20 mile climb today! Luckly, the grade was so gentle that many hardly noticed! There were 2 official SAG stops today. We also designated another place to indulge in some "energy food"; The Oregon Candy Farm. We arrived to the hotel in perfect time to help unload the luggage truck. Upon checking into our room we were thrilled to get to our luxurious suite, complete with kitchenette and fireplace! We did not use either of those ammenities, but did take full advantage of the hot tub and swimming pool. Dinner was down the road about a mile at Panda Panda Chinese Food Restaurant. We chatted with old and new friends over desserts and drinks at The Resort
, bid everyone a good night and rested up for hilly ride to Kah-nee-ta.
